Fleck – The Bigger Picture App

It is hard to adopt a new social media network when you already have so many. One of the biggest frustrations is building up friends or followers, and then finding out that they put really lame stuff up all of the time. A new app, Fleck – The Bigger Picture,  lets you focus on creative themed categories, not friends. This focus helps you get more of what you are looking for and less what you could care less about. We sit on Pinterest boards and it is the same thing pinned over and over again, but a fleeting source of inspiration, or "inspiration of the day" is nice to see, otherwise things begin to feel stale. New ideas and new sources of inspiration everyday is refreshing, and Fleck does a good job of providing a fresher source of inspiration, from users all around the world that share your interests.  Here is our take on the app:What it has going for it:

  • Clean, minimal interface
  • Category based instead of friend based use
  • A global community
  • Opportunity to suggest topics
  • Targeted audience of creatives, so the categories and content are about art and creative inspiration
  • You can request images/participation from people at random all over the world
  • Focused content so you aren't stuck seeing your friend's cat or dinner
  • Great source of inspiration
  • It is neat to see things from like minded users all around the world about categories you care about
  • Easy sharing capabilities across other platforms

What we would like to see:

  • A filter function to choose which categories you see, so your own "dashboard" of sorts
  • More participants (which we understand will come in time)
  • Better photo editing tools. The filters right now are kind of a watered down version of Instagram filters that lacks the control you want in an app of this nature
  • More catagories (which are supposed to come in the future with suggestions from users)
  • The option to deny a request to submit a photo
  • We are also curious how they are going to ensure the quality/purity of the category so it doesn't get muddied with unrelated, improperly tagged images

We really want to hear what you guys think, download the app, check it out, and then please comment. Is this something, as a creative, that you would use? What would you like to see done with the app? If you are interested in seeing this app go somewhere, conversation is the best tool for finessing it.More information about Fleck can be found on their website, or in this article on Medium by Fleck's CEO and Co-Founder Rory Reiff.
