Nymi: Unlock Your World with only your heartbeat
I just learned that your heartbeat is as unique as your finger print. On that singular fact, Bionym created a wristband that turns your passwords into heartbeats. Without storing anything in the wristband itself, it essentially authenticates your identity to devices around you, just by wearing it. I won't even try explaining all the techy details, so you will have to watch the video and visit their site for that. Just know it is a step in the right direction for wearable technology. Naturally, I am a skeptic of all wearable tech, as I don't see someone wanting wear the same thing all day, everyday. Especially knowing that millions of other people will be wearing the same thing. Inevitably, it will start to get in the way. That being said, I am impressed with Bionym's wristband, Nymi, because it has started off being minimal. And even as we speak, Bionym is looking for ways to make the tech even more discrete, potentially finding a way to imbed the tech into clothing or jewelry. They are available for preorder today. And surprisingly they aren't too expensive. My only hold up would be how compatible they are with smart devices. Right now Nymi isn't compatible with most of the smart devices shown in the video, but their hope is to make that happen in the near future. Convincing companies to accommodate for compatibility with this new tech might be difficult, But it is an amazing breakthrough in tailoring the environment around individuals as they enter it. So it might stand a good chance. Here's to hoping!
