Alexander Girard Pillows

As long time fans of Alexander Girard, it is always fun to see old products that he sold in his T&O shop. This pillow collection was sold in his very short-lived Textile and Objects 1961 shop and features classic Girard illustrations. When I first saw these, I thought that it would be so fun to track down and own this collection for our home...but in what condition and at what price? After some searching, I found out that both Urban Outfitters and Vitra have Alexander Girard collections. Yes, they are recreations, and mass produced, but it still gives a more affordable and attainable option. Vitra has the 22 piece wooden doll set too, and Urban Outfitters has some Girard prints as well. The simplicity of the illustrations and color palette is what I think made them so wonderful. Such a beautiful collection.Alexander Girard opened the Textile and Objects shop in Manhattan in 1961. It was a Herman Miller showroom filled with colorful and unique folk art that Girard had found around the world. The showroom also included his own home collections from his designs and illustrations. Unfortunately, the shop wasn't successful and closed down shortly after being opened.  The failure was due to both poor advertisement of the shop and to people's unwillingness to veer from the simple and conservative style of 1950's interior design to the colorful and exotic items in T&O.
