Mid-Century Modern Find
When we moved to Boston, we wanted to find some good furniture pieces to spice up our otherwise dull decor. After hunting through antique shops and spending countless hours on Craigslist, we were coming up short and about to settle on a boring, cheap coffee table. That is,until Brad made an awesome find, a diamond in the rough if you will. He showed me a picture of this beat up coffee table that some college student in Cambridge was selling for a mere $25. I wasn't sold. It was pretty trashed and I didn't see the significance. Brad convinced me that it was cheap enough to take a risk, and that he thought it was a mid-century modern piece, so I went along. We picked up the table, brought it home and inspected our spoil. A diamond in the rough indeed. After a good scrubbing, some sanding and staining, and a little research, we discovered that our $25 Craigslist find was a "Nelson Style Mid-Century Modern Danish Slat Surf Board Bench Coffee Table." Thank goodness for Brad's keen design eye and my willingness to take a risk. Our $25 coffee table turned into a much more valuable (try closer to 24 times that) collector's piece. Hopefully we will get lucky again some day. Second image source: Etsy
