Here We Go Again

Well, the time has come to say our goodbyes to the place that has been so good to us for the last 4 years. After an awesome run in Austin, we are packing up and moving to Boise, Idaho. We know this will come as a huge surprise to a lot of people, and honestly, it was kind of a surprise to us as well (we thought we’d be in Austin forever), but when something is right, it’s right. A bunch of different factors played into our decision to move but what it came down to, was a reassessment of what is most important to us.Like many creatives, the last year was tougher than usual. It might have been an unstable economy, the elections, or even just a trend shift; but regardless, it got us thinking about our motivations. We started our business for our family. We wanted to be able to spend more time with our kids, dogs, and each other and have the freedom to live our lives on our terms. Last year’s instability meant more hustle, more hours, more taking on some projects for the $$ instead of projects that we were excited about, and less time as a family. We have decided that it would be beneficial to live below our means and spend more time doing the things that make us most happy than live right within our means but sacrifice precious time together to make it happen. Our move to Austin was a very intentional decision, and we have honestly loved every minute here. We have met some of the most amazing people, fallen in love with the town and the creative community, bought our first house, and even had our daughter while we were here. As tough as leaving this place that we call home will be, our move to Boise is just as intentional. Not only will we be able to lower our cost of living, but we will be closer to a large portion of our family and raise our kids in a lifestyle that we think better fits us. It’s no secret that Krystal and I love the outdoors (our company IS called Brave the Woods), and unfortunately, due to the lack of mountains here, Austin doesn’t lend itself to the outdoor activities that we love to do in the mountains like camping, backpacking, and snowboarding. We are really excited for the opportunities waiting for us in Boise. We still love Austin so much and plan on being back often for conferences and events. That being said though, if you are local and want to meet up before we leave, please let us know! We don’t leave until July, so let’s make the most of the time we have left in Austin!
