Fossilized Typography

We all love a good typographic experiment. This faux fossilized typography, created by Austrian designer Andreas Scheiger, is a treat for the 8 year-old fossil hunter in all of us. I remember getting those fossil sets for my birthday where you chip away at a block to discover plastic dinosaur "bones"; this is much better. Sheiger created the series as part of an ongoing project called "Evolution of Type."Using plasticine, a flat wooden letter, stones and chicken bones, Sheiger created a fossilized typography set. The detail is quite spectacular, with each bone looking authentically aged and form chipped away perfectly. The small pieces creating the shapes of the letterforms are so carefully placed, and every serif and terminal looks just right. Overall it is a very cool typographic expeeriment, and the set-up of the photos adds to the effect. Read more about Sheiger's fossilized type on Visual News, and more on his process on his blog: Grafisheslabor
