Beautiful Prosthetics by Bespoke Innovations
Looking at a limb prosthetic, it is easy to see that it was designed by engineers. They are functional and perform, and still incredible, but they are not made with beauty in mind. What if someone went beyond the functionality, and decided to design for the person. That is exactly what ex-Apple industrial designer Scott Summit and his team at Bespoke Innovations have done. They have taken the functionality of prosthetics, and added the sculpture, beauty, and elegance of the human body.Bespoke Innovations uses the technology of 3-D printing to create additions to limb prosthetics that compliment the person. The end result is a work of art, a sculpture that reflects the uniqueness and personality of each person. The process is called fairing. "Fairings infuse the individual's lifestyle and taste into the design from the start. But to make this an even more personal part of the prosthetic leg, Fairings can be enhanced with patterns, graphics, and materials—including leather, ballistic nylon fabric, chrome plating, and even tattoos." Summit stresses that the point is to make life better for the person, while not trying to look human, but still giving them back their curve and adding a dash of their personality.
